The psychological reason why you should sell what you know

Before I got started packaging up my skills and expertise as online courses, I had a HUGE mental block standing between me and my success.

I kept telling myself, “Why would anyone buy this? If they just buy these books, read these sites, and start testing things on their own, they’ll be able to figure it out.”

Just writing that today makes me feel like an idiot.

Why?

As Sweet Brown would say, “Ain’t nobody got time for that.”

Reading 1000s of books, research papers, and then spending months (if not years) figuring out how to IMPLEMENT the stuff takes time. And…

“Ain’t nobody got time for that.”

But check it:

There’s a psychological reason why you SHOULD sell what you know.

Even if they can find what you know somewhere else at no cost.

Why You Should Sell Your Expertise

On today’s podcast, I brought Francesca Gino, a Harvard professor and author of the book Sidetracked (aff), on Social Triggers to talk about why people only trust information with a price tag.

Download audio file (17-Social-Triggers-Why-you-should-sell-what-you-know-with-Harvard-professor-Francesca-Gino.mp3)

(If you can’t see the audio player, here’s the MP3 download).

Also, if you get a second today, can you please leave a review on iTunes? Reviews are how iTunes rank podcasts – and taking 10 seconds to leave a review will be a HUGE help. Thank you!

We cover a lot more game-changing insights in addition to that, so download this podcast and listen today. You’ll see:

* why people CHOOSE to wait in line for hours for something they can find somewhere else… instantly.

* Why creating “rituals” can help you perform high stress tasks better.

* And more.

When you’re done, since I mentioned a mental block I had about business, I’d love for you to share one mental block you think you have preventing you from getting what you want.

5 Surprising Ways To Rapidly Increase Online Course Sales

By now you’ve probably heard about someone who created an online course, started selling it, and made a living doing it.

The question is, how can you do it effectively? And profitably?

Well…

Over the last 5 years, I built Social Triggers from scratch into a multi-million dollar online business.

And as you know, much of this revenue was was generated by creating and selling online courses.

Needless to say, I learned a things about how to do it – and I know MANY of them will surprise you.

So, today, on my blog, I’d like to reveal 5 big insights I learned.

More specifically, I’ll show you.

1. Why I offer payment plans (the secret? yes, it helps increase sales, but it also does this ONE thing).

2. The BIG secret behind why people “Open and close” enrollment for online courses (People think it’s just about “scarcity.” Not true. There’s another BIG reason why people do it…).

3. Should you give all your content out at once or should you drip it out? Believe it or not, there’s a right answer. And it affects your bottom line AND your students success rate.

4. The psychology of a new customer (and how to ensure they don’t fall into the dark pit of despair after they buy your course).

5. A simple way to increase the revenue of your next launch by 25% (or more).

So, let’s dive in…

#1 The Power of Extended Payment Plans

I recently stumbled on a sales page for a premium online course. The cost was $2,000 or two payments of $1,000.

I laughed.

Here’s why:

A payment plan makes your premium online course more accessible to people who don’t have the money “up front.” But if your prospect doesn’t have $2,000… they probably don’t have $1,000 either.

So, what are you really accomplishing with a “two payments of $1,000?”

You’re not increasing sales. You’re not making it easier on your customers. You’re not reaching a new segment of the market.

In reality, all you’re really doing is giving yourself the headache of collecting two payments when people could have easily have afforded the single payment.

And that’s why longer, extended payment plans are great. As you bring the monthly payment lower, you can reach a new segment of customers that you couldn’t reach with the larger, one time payment.

Plus, here’s the benefit that most people don’t talk about: payment plans help you create predictable revenue. And if you want to scale your business to multiple six figures – and seven figures – predictable revenue is important because you can make smart hiring decisions without worrying where the money will come from.

So, the next time you launch your course, try an extended payment plan. Maybe try 5 payments of $400. Or Even 10 payments of $200. The goal is to reach a new demographic of customers you can’t reach otherwise and Im willing to bet you can increase your conversion rates.

How Zippy Courses Makes This Easy: Creating payment plans used to be a real big pain. Not anymore. In the new Zippy Courses “All-In-One” Platform, you can create multiple payment plans in just a few seconds.

#2 The Power Of “Opening” And “Closing” Enrollment

Let me share a staggering number with you…

75%.

That’s how many sales often come in for my online courses during the last 24 hours before I “close the cart” for an online course.

SEVENTY FIVE PERCENT.

In the last 24 hours.

It’s pretty ridiculous. But as you know, one of the main reasons why people don’t buy is because they like to procrastinate. But when you “close enrollment” for your online course, you help light a fire under people and get them moving.

Plus…

There’s an added benefit here too: when you sell online courses during specific enrollment periods, you often generate a larger group of students going through your course at the same time.

This is GREAT for your students. When you sell something on evergreen, you might get 1 or 2 people going through your class at any given time. But when you create a larger enrollment group, you give your students the opportunity to form connections amongst their peer group, and that’s GREAT for the user learning experience.

So, yes, it’s good for sales. And it’s also good for your students. It’s truly win-win.

How Zippy Courses Makes This Easy: You can open and close enrollment for your online course with Zippy Courses, again, in just a few seconds. It’s as easy as creating what we call a “Launch Window” attached to your product, and this “launch window” determines when something is on sale and when it’s no longer for sale.

#3 The Power of “Dripping” Your Content (vs Releasing It All At Once)

My friend told me that his refund rate was much higher than he liked. I asked him why, and he told me he didn’t know. So I recommended that he run quick survey on the people who bought his product and refunded it.

What did he find?

The #1 reason why people refunded his product was because they felt overwhelmed by all the stuff they needed to do.

And that made sense.

Here’s why: He sold a 10 module online course and he gave his students all 10 modules as soon as they purchased the course. And then, people would log in to their membership area, see all 10 modules, click around to 5 or 6 videos and think, “THIS IS SO OVERWHELMING.” And they’d leave the membership site and ask for a refund.

All because he offered too much content too fast.

So, I told him to drip his content out. And it will help focus your students on “what’s important now.” And it will help eliminate overwhelm. And sure enough, that’s exactly what happened. As he helped eliminate overwhelm, his refund rate started to drop.

How Zippy Courses Makes This Easy: In the new Zippy Courses “All-In-One” Platform, you can drip course content out with ease. Some “membership software” requires you to create special configurations and special coding to drip out content. But in Zippy Courses, it’s as easy as clicking a few buttons during the “Course Scheduling” part of the “course builder.”

#4 The Power Of Strategic “Follow Up” Emails After People Buy Your Course

I bought an online course from a well-known course creator. It was expensive too. About $1,000. But after I bought the course, I noticed something: I got an email with information about how to login to my course…

…but I never heard from this course creator again. Yes, he went on to try and sell me more things, but he never sent any emails specifically related to the course I just bought.

This is DUMB.

When people buy a premium online course, “getting the sale” is just part of the problem. You also need to KEEP the sale. And you need to make sure your customer is happy with the purchase.

And that’s why strategic followup emails are so important. You can manage customer expectations when they need it most.

As an example, if you join a course from Social Triggers, I often email you once a week about each module that I release. But, after about 2 or 3 weeks, in those emails talking about each module often start including phrases like: “If you fall behind, don’t worry. Now that you’re a member, you get lifetime access to the training material.”

Why?

When people buy online courses, it’s natural that they fall behind after a few weeks. And when they start falling behind, they start feeling bad and they think about giving up. However, when you reassure them that it’s okay that they’re falling behind… and that they still have plenty of time to catch up… it keeps people focused on their main goal.

It also helps prevent people from refunding the product prematurely.

So, again, it’s good for business. And it’s good for the student, too.

How Zippy Courses Makes This Easy: And as you might imagine, you can configure these “followup” emails VERY quickly inside the New Zippy Courses “All-In-One” Platform. Take a look:

#5 How to Increase Sales By 25% With Multiple Tiers

What do I mean by multiple tiers?

Quite simply: instead of just selling one course at one price… you should create one course with multiple tiers at different prices.

As an example, you might sell an online course for $500. You should also consider creating a $1000 level of that same course.

(In this more expensive level, you can offer additional training material, live group coaching calls, one-on-one consulting, whatever you like to make the value worth more).

And you’ll watch your revenue soar.

Here’s why:

When you sell an online course with multiple options, you’ll often see a breakdown that looks something like this: 75% of people will buy the cheap option. And 25% will buy the more expensive option.

So…

Run the numbers:

Let’s say you sell 100 copies of your course. If you only offer one option at $500, you’ll collect $50,000 in revenue. However, if you sell 75 people into the $500 option and 25 people into the $1000 option, your total revenue skyrockets to $62,500. A solid 25% increase.

Why does this work so well?

In my experience, there are always people who buy the nice toilet paper at the store. And these people want more service, more training, and a more premium experience. And if you fail to offer one, you’re leaving a tremendous amount or revenue on the table.

How Zippy Courses Makes This Easy: You can create multiple tiers of an online course in SECONDS. It’s really just as easy as clicking one button, and setting one little configuration. Take a look:

As a matter of fact: I’m willing to bet it will take you less than 30 seconds. That’s how easy the new Zippy Courses is to use.

Now I Have A Quick Question…

Facebook will ruin your reach AGAIN (but I have 3 ways to fix it)

So, the New York Times just reported that Facebook intends to change their algorithm… AGAIN. This time Facebook plans to emphasize updates from friends and family over other things like “business pages.”

And I have a HUGE smile on my face.

Why?

Over the next few days people will complain about their decision. Especially when they see their traffic and reach disappear over night. And if you rely heavily on your Facebook page, I would be PETRIFIED.

But me? I didn’t even break a sweat. You know why? I put all my effort into building my blog and email list. And that’s it.

Yes, I have a Facebook page. A pretty popular one at that. So, will the change hurt?

Sure, maybe a little. But I don’t rely on my Facebook page.

You see, when I think about growing my business online, I believe people should focus on building assets they own… assets like their blog… their email list… their real-life connections… their business partnerships… and things like that…

…because no one can ever take that from you.

If you use one email provider to deliver your email, and they piss you off, you can export your email list and go to a new provider. If you you create content day in and day out for a platform like Facebook, and Facebook changes their algorithm, you’re screwed. But if you create it on your own blog and turn your blog into a destination for people… no one can take that from you either.

The question is, how can you build a popular blog and email list WITHOUT something like Facebook?

Tip #1: Yes, design is king in the first few seconds, but content will become even more important than ever.

I’ll explain why, too.

As the New York Times explains, these changes “”will have less of an impact, however, if most of a publisher’s traffic comes from individual users sharing and commenting on their stories and videos.”

Meaning, if you already have an audience of people who love your content, and WANT TO SHARE IT, your traffic will do just fine.

So, if you create a great piece of content, email your email list, and they like it enough to share it, you’ll still get plenty of social traffic.

And that’s good news.

However, you’ll still need that initial bump in traffic to “generate” the shares. If you’re relying on your Facebook page to create that “initial” bump, you likely won’t get that as much anymore. However, if you have an email list, you’ll be JUST FINE.

Tip #2: You’ll need to DOUBLE DOWN on building your email list

Look, I’ve said this for years, but I’ll say it again: if you’re not building your email list, you’re an idiot. I even filmed a video all about it right here:

This email list will become more important than ever. Especially if you want to distribute your content with hopes of that content gaining shares. Facebook won’t send you the traffic, but if you can get your existing people to share, they can. So you’re set.

Now you might think, “Well, I’ll just rely on some other social media platform.” But don’t do that. How many times do people need to learn their lesson the hard way? BUILD YOUR EMAIL LIST.

Tip #3: The best way to build your email list doesn’t even involve social media…

Now that you know the importance of the email list, you’re likely thinking: Okay, how do I build it if I can’t rely on Facebook for traffic?

Well…

I’ve got great news. The best way to grow your email list doesn’t even require you to use social media. And I show you how to do it inside this FREE EBOOK called: “How to Get 5,000 Subscribers.”

And yes, of course, you need to opt in to download it. Because I practice what I preach. So go download the ebook now.

This one little “social mistake” can make people hate you (don’t do it…)

Imagine you’re at a meetup, and you’re having a conversation about something that just happened in the news.

While making your point, you mispronounce a word… and someone interjects, “Well, actually, you’re supposed to say it like this…”

And there you are. You’re in the middle of a group of 5 people, and this person just corrected a word you said.

Sure, it has nothing to do with the point you’re making, but they went on to say, “Sorry about interrupting. Just wanted to make sure you knew the right way to say that word so you didn’t sound dumb.”

How would you feel?

On one hand, it’s nice to hear the RIGHT way to say a word. But really? Did it really need to happen in front of so many people?

Probably not, right?

And what about the guy who corrected you?

Sure, he’s not a bad guy. He isn’t thinking to himself, “Let me sabotage you right now in front of everyone.” But he did embarass you. And even if you can take it… because you’re an adult… you’ll likely never forget how he made you feel.

I know this is an egregious example, but as I look around, I see people making similar mistakes when they communicate with people.

Sometimes the mistakes are MUCH larger than other times…

…But the result is always the same: people want to be liked, they want to make a good first impression, and they want to put their best foot forward, but for whatever reason, when the time comes, they fail.

A while back, I used to chalk this up to “Well, that’s just the way they are. I can accept it, or I can move on.” But I believe being “good with people,” is a skill that can be learned. And I believe anyone – whether you’re already good with people or you’re struggling – can benefit from learning tools and techniques for becoming better with people.

As an example…

In this video, I revealed a simple strategy people can use to email influential people – and get responses (FAST).

http://ift.tt/Qb8MWy

In this video, I share a dumb mistake an entrepreneur makes at a conference (and what to do instead).

http://ift.tt/174GdVa

And in this video, I help people who want to build confidence be more confident.

http://ift.tt/11CwqDR

But my question to you is this:

What types of “mistakes” do you see people make when they interact with people?

Do they come off too strong?

Do they act too timid?

Do they tell bad stories?

(Oh, I know a few who do that, and it drives me nuts).

What types of things do you see out in the world?

Why Testimonials Improve – Or Destroy – Sales

The power of reviews and testimonials are undeniable. Some research suggests a lot of reviews can increase sales by 35% or MORE.

I know it. You know it. And BUSINESSES know it. Good reviews persuade us to buy things we may not have bought otherwise.

And that’s why testimonials and reviews can actually HURT Your sales.

I’ll explain…

Let’s say you stumble on a product (or service) that has reviews that look sort of like this:

What’s the FIRST thing that pops into your head?

Either the product is the BEST product since the invention of the wheel… or the reviews are fake.

Right?

Sure, you might give it the benefit of the doubt, but you probably couldn’t help but think to yourself, “something is fishy.”

I know when I see too many positive reviews, I often think they’re fake. Even if it comes from someone I trust.

Is it because we’re naturally skeptics?

Maybe.

But as I dug deeper, I realized I wasn’t alone. When I asked friends about what they thought about positive reviews and they too also thought that too many positive reviews may be a tell-tale sign for “fake reviews.”

And can you blame us?

A few months ago, Bell Canada launched an app that allowed their customers to manage their mobile accounts, and the reviews were stellar.

But it didn’t make sense to my friend Scott Stratten. He used the app, and it was horrible. He knew others who used it and hated it too. So, when he dug deeper he discovered that many of the positive reviews were left by employees who worked at Bell Canada.

Or, in other words, the reviews were fake.

This made the news all over the world. A big company got caught creating fake reviews… and they later got fined $1.25 million dollars for it.

Now you might be thinking “that’s a big dumb company. Of course they do something stupid like that.”

But what about the “grey” area of asking your friends for a testimonial?

I mean, what’s the harm in that, right? Chances are you have friends who are also colleagues and colleagues who are also friends. And chances are you’ve actually worked with these people before so you’re not asking for a fake testimonial… It’s real, right?

Well, put yourself in your customers’ shoes for a second. We are skeptical of reviews and testimonials. And if we subscribe to your newsletter, we probably have a vague idea who you are friends with and who you’re not friends with. I mean, the people who read your newsletter and website are not idiots. They’re people. Often smart people. Now what do you think they think when they see a testimonial from one of your friends?

If you’re thinking, “they might think it’s fake,” DING DING DING. We have a winner. You’re right.

Now imagine how that impacts sales…

It’s not good.

And that’s why you should almost never ask your friends for testimonials.

Now I know I went all negative for a minute…

…but as I said: testimonials can also BOOST sales significantly.

Here’s How Testimonials (And Reviews) Increase Sales

But not all testimonials are bad.

And that’s why I put together this short 6 minute and 52 second video where I walk you through how to create what I call “The Perfect Testimonial.”

The best part?

Personally I’ve always felt testimonials and reviews could seem so “salesy.” But when you do them right they actually help your customer (and your business).

Here’s why…

One of the MAIN things I share in the video is this: instead of just featuring superflous comments like “I LOVE WORKING WITH THEM!” I encourage you to go deeper and focus on specific customers, specific problems, and help you provide an experience for your prospects that makes them say WOW.

And let me tell you, it works.

I mean, I’m good friends with Marie Forleo, Ramit Sethi, and countless other entrepreneurs. In many cases, our friendship is blurred with business. I’ve spoken at Marie’s conference, I’ve been featured in Ramit’s membership program, and in general, I’ve worked or partnered with many of these people in some shape or form. If I asked each of them for a testimonial, they could give one based on real and factual information. But I never asked for one because it didn’t matter if it was real. People would know that we’re friends, and they’d assume it’s fake.

So, instead of asking “influencers” for testimonials, I’ve always focused on featuring my previous customers and how I helped them.

Sure, a testimonial from an influencer, when real, could help, but take a look at my business. Or even my friend Ramit Sethi or Marie’s business. We almost always focus on the results we provide for our people as opposed to the nice things our friends are willing to say about us in public.

Here’s an example of some great success stories from one of our programs Blog that Converts.

Notice how my team and I focus on the results we provide for people… including the mindset shifts they stumbled upon…

That’s not an accident.

Additionally, when you review these testimonials, look specifically at how we adapted “The Perfect Testimonial” and actually use what we preach.

And I believe that’s what sets people like us apart.

So, go ahead and watch my video titled “The Perfect Testimonial,” and let me know how you plan on using this in your business TODAY.

Don’t spend one cent on business cards til you see this…

When I started my online business, I often heard from friends and family, “When are you going to get a real job?”

I mean, my business is real? Right? What’s NOT real about it?

Then, I thought to myself, “hrm, maybe they’re right? What can I do to make my business real? I know. I need business cards!”

So I made them.

And then I realized the truth about business cards…

I show you in the new Social Triggers comic strip:

Business Cards

Looking back, what happened here makes sense: people questioned the realness of my online business, so I responded by creating something people could hold in their hand… something real… a business card…

But the truth is: a business card doesn’t make the business.

As a matter of fact, there’s no one thing that makes a business.

Meaning, you don’t need business cards, headshots, a fancy web design, and you most definitely don’t need to switch your software providers because “you need more functionality.”

Instead, the ONLY thing you need to start – and grow – your business is as simple as this:

  1. You need to find a problem real people have in the real world.
  2. You need to create a solution to that real problem.
  3. You need to get that solution in front of people have have the problem.

And that’s it.

1. Find the pain.

2. Eliminate that pain.

3. Show the right people that you can do it.

But figuring that out is hard.

I mean…

You know what a business card looks like.

You know what a nice design looks like.

And this other stuff?

“Find the pain, create a solution, get in touch with people and ask them to buy it” is like trying to read Egyptian hieroglyphics.

It’s foreign.

And that’s why you should pay close attention to what I plan to share with you over the next few weeks.

I’ll show you everything you need to do to start – and grow – your online business.

In the mean time…

To show you what makes Social Triggers material different than these other people who share business advice…

…let’s go a little bit further into this business card conundrum.

Yes, people do it because they want their business to feel real…

…but they also do it because they know they need to connect with people… and business cards help them connect.

Or at least that’s what they’ve been told.

But I can tell you this: I’ve never gotten any business from a business card. And anyone who says they did is probably lying.

So, let me share what I do instead…

How to Connect With Anyone

So you met someone who you want to connect with further.

You now know you don’t want to give them your business card.

What can you do instead?

STEP 1: When you meet someone, ask this ONE question

If you meet someone you’d like to stay in touch with, you should ask them one question at the end of your conversation. And that question is this:

“What’s the BEST way to reach out to you?” I capitalized BEST because I’d like you to emphasize that when you say it. And if the conversation went well, they’ll tell you…

Sometimes they’ll say email. Other time they’ll say text message. Whatever the case, write down what they say, and move on.

(Note: If they hand you their business card, just ask for clarification by saying, “So, just email the email on this card?” If they say yes, you’re golden).

STEP 2: The Following Day, Send This SHORT email

Now that you got the best way to reach out, it’s time to send this short little email. It should read something as simple as this:

email1

What’s going on here?

A lot.

Notice this: I’m not asking for anything. That’s important. There are so many people who meet people at events, and then immediately followup trying to get something out of the person they just met.

DONT DO THAT.

I always say you should follow Derek Halpern’s 12 Month Rule of connecting with people, which is as follows: if you meet someone, don’t ask them for anything for at least one year (or 12 months).

Now, of course, in some cases it could be a shorter time frame, but I always say 12 months because that gives you an opportunity to actually get to know someone a little bit better before you start barraging them with things you need, heh.

And finally…

STEP 3: A MONTH later, Send THIS short email

Now that you met someone, and successfully followed up. The next step? To send them another email that gets you on their radar once more.

What should this email say? It should be something simple like this:

email2

The key here?

DONT ASK FOR ANYTHING.

Instead, provide value and keep yourself on the radar of the person you’d like to meet.

And then…

As time passes by, the goal is to continue fostering this mutual, win-win friendship and connection. And after you send the first few emails, you should feel comfortable inviting them to a group dinner (with other people they may want to meet), cocktails (again, with other people they may want to meet), or even another event.

I know this sounds formulaic. And it could be abused by sleazy networkers. But this is how real friendships are made in business. You meet someone, you remind them that you met, you deliver value, and eventually, you continually offer value to them with hopes of building a lasting connection.

That said…

This, of course, is only a small part of starting – and growing – a business.

But what I want to hear from you is this:

1. What did you think of the first ever Social Triggers comic strip?

2. Are you excited to learn more about starting – and growing – your online business?

3. Will you try this simple framework for meeting people?

Leave a comment now.

Here are the only 3 things you MUST do to become great at anything

A friend told me, “Derek, I have to apologize.”

I said, “Why?”

“Well, I always thought things came easy for you. And I didn’t think you worked that hard.”

I laughed…

Nothing comes easy. And if it’s worth having, you’ll have to wade through a moat filled with alligators, garbage and feces to get it.

I’ll explain…

People often think I’m a “natural” at speaking and at “being on video.”

Well…

That couldn’t be further from the truth.

You see, I became great at speaking and being on video because I wanted to become great at it.

I’d buy educational material to help me get better… including online courses, books, and workshops.

I’d practice regularly… including filming the same video over and over and over again until I got it right.

And most important: I gave myself permission to be bad because I knew if I kept at it eventually I’d get good.

To prove it, here’s a video of my first ever speaking engagement at an industry conference.

I did this BEFORE I launched Social Triggers. I did this BEFORE I launched a web tv show. I did this BEFORE I became the guy you know today.

I. was. horrible.

I’m monotonous. I’m boring. I have verbal tics. My neck is super red. And I just look uncomfortable.

Now compare that to a speaking engagement I did just a few months later at the same conference.

Notice how I came out from behind the podium? And how I’m a little more comfortable speaking? I’m cracking jokes. I’m a little more animated.

There was a drastic improvement in a very short amount of time… just a few months… but there was still work to do.

A few years later, I now look like a natural.

Maybe you’ve seen my newer YouTube videos… or maybe you’ve seen me at an event… but I’m pretty good.

I’m emphatic. I talk with my hands. I raise my voice. I lower my voice. I pause. I do everything a good speaker should do… and it shows.

But getting there wasn’t easy.

I remember calling a friend before a speaking engagement and rehearsing my opening to my speech 57 times.

I also remember filming the SAME video over and over and over again until I got it right.

And I kept working at it.

The best part?

I’ve done this in many areas of my life.

I used to be awkward in social situations… and now I can walk into any room and own it.

I used to be bad at public speaking… and now I command $20,000 for a keynote.

I used to be a bad writer… and now my writing is great.

And the list goes on.

The secret to greatness? It’s easier than you think…

I’d buy educational material. I’d practice. And most important, I’d give myself permission to be bad.

AND YOU NEED TO DO THE SAME.

No matter what you’re trying to accomplish: invest in yourself, practice regularly, and give yourself permission to be bad.

And you’ll thank me later.

Now what I’d love to hear from you is this:

– What’s one thing you used to be bad at that you’re now GREAT at?

– What did you do to go from “bad” to “great?”

Leave a comment right here and be as specific as possible.

This is your chance to brag. So I want to hear all sorts of things!

2016: Go All In

The other day I asked you to tell me about the projects you have planned for this year…

…and as I expected, one of the BIG things people want to focus on this year is starting – and growing – their online online business.

But as I kept reading response after response, I noticed something interesting…

PEOPLE HAVE A LOT ON THEIR PLATE.

Some people had three projects. Other people had as many as EIGHT projects.

No wonder people always feel overwhelmed, busy, and stressed out all the time.

The problem?

Well, I actually hinted at it in my last email. But the PROBLEM is this:

2016projects

It should be clear.

When you work on 3, 4, or 8 new things at once, you NEVER finish anything.

And if you NEVER finish anything, you start feeling like you’re not working hard enough. And then you start to feel overwhelmed about how little time you have. And then you start getting stressed out.

explodehead
Can you relate?

What’s the solution?

Well…

I used to play poker. No limit Texas Holdem to be exact. And my favorite thing about that game was going All In.

Now, if you’re unfamiliar with “going all in,” it’s when you push all of your chips into the center and show the entire table: “I’m willing to risk everything on this hand. You can either match my bet, or you can fold and let me win the pot.”

It’s a little dramatic, I know. But I always loved it because right after I pushed my chips in, I always felt a sense of freedom.

Why?

Because I made a decision. And there was no turning back.

And when I look at my life, I’ve always had a lot of things on my plate. In 2015 alone, I wanted to launch 3 new products, relaunch my podcast, and more. But when I look at what I actually accomplished each year, I realized something…

I often push all my chips in on one new project – I go all in on one project. And I table everything else for a future date.

See for yourself…

Here’s a rough breakdown of my last few years:

2011: I focused on starting my business (Social Triggers).

2012: I focused on finding a proven monetization strategy (in my case, I chose to create and sell online courses).

2013: I focused on getting MORE customers for Social Triggers by selling the same product over and over again (and my revenue almost tripled from 2012)

2014: I focused on turning my business from a one product company into a four product company (I went from just Blog that Converts in 2013, to Blog that Converts, Start Your Blog Right, Yes Engines, and Zippy Courses).

2015: I focused on hiring a strong team to help me continue to grow Social Triggers (in 2014, I had just 2 full-time employees and a handful of contractors I worked with regularly. By the end of 2015, Social Triggers had worked with about 17 full-time employees and contractors).

Notice how I didn’t launch 3 products in 2015. And I didn’t relaunch my podcast. I plan to do that, but last year, I tabled it for a future date.

And what happened over the last 5 years?

Well…

I don’t share this to brag, because in reality, I know you don’t really care about my life and success.

You care about YOUR projects and YOUR goals.

But look at my results when I pushed all in on one big new thing:

st_yearlysales

As you can see, with your own two eyes, I went all in each year on something new, and revenue took off.

It’s pretty interesting, right?

Going all in can work, and it can work real well.

And that’s why, this year, I’m making it THE YEAR TO GO ALL IN.

This doesn’t mean you quit your job. Or ignore everything else in your life. It means maintain your life as it currently is…

Go to work.

Continue serving clients.

Do the things you’ve always done.

But also pick ONE NEW THING, and go all in on it.

“But Derek! I can’t just GIVE UP on ALL of my projects!”

And I get it.

When I asked you to share your main thing and side thing, many of you shared 3, 4, 5, and as many as 8 things that you’re working on.

But I can tell you this:

If you keep that much on your plate, you’ll never get anything done. So, it’s time to go all in on just one of those things.

And don’t worry! I’m not asking you to give up everything else. Instead, I’m asking you to table them for now…

…And go all in on just one project.

If it’s not working, don’t be ashamed with adjusting course.

In poker, after you push all in, you can’t get your chips back.

However, in life, after you push all in, if you don’t like where things are going, you can always take your chips back and push all in somewhere else.

So, are you with me?

Do you want to go all in this year?

If the answer is yes, leave a comment and say “I’m In!”

Also, PLEASE, share what you plan on going all in on.

If you’re having trouble deciding, I always like to think about what will have the most meaningful impact on my life… assuming everything goes PERFECT…

And I like to get irrational about it.

If you’re thinking about starting a new business, imagine if that business managed to pull in seven figures in the first year?

Sure, it probably won’t happen. But imagine if it did. Will that have the most meaningful impact on your life?

If you’re thinking about getting fit this year, imagine if you one day realized all your fitness goals – you did the 4 minute mile, you have the perfect amount of body fat, or whatever your goal is.

Sure, it probably won’t happen in a year, but what if it did? Will that have the most meaningful impact on your life?

The point is this…

Go through the things I had you think about the other day, and imagine what could have the most meaningful impact on your life.

Then let me know what you plan on making your #1 priority this year.

2016: How to Make Real Progress This Year

I had a conversation with a friend. It went like this:

Friend: “I’m tired of my job. I need to make some moves.”

Me: “What do you have planned?”

Friend: “Well, I have a few side hustles… I do some consulting. I’m also working on an iphone app. And when I can, I’m actively looking for a new job. Oh, I’m also doing some investing!”

What’s really going on?

People have the main thing they do to earn a living.

And they have these other things they do on the side that they hope will pan out.

The media calls this Sidepreneurism…

…and when you plot it out on a simple graph, their life looks a little like this:

2016 Goals

5 different projects. All in various stages of completion.

One project might be some volunteer work for a charity. Another project might be a new business idea. Another project might be a side income. And another project might be their fulltime job.

In some cases, people want the thing they do on the side to become their new main thing. In other cases, people are multi-passionate, and they want to work on all of these projects.

Sound familiar?

I’m betting it does.

I mean, it sounds familiar to me too.

Back when I was just getting started, I had the main thing that I did, which at the time, was school. I also actively worked on a night life website, an college humor website, and a celebrity gossip website.

Plus, I also played poker because I wanted to become a professional poker player. I also played competitively in other collectible card games (not sure what they are? Think Magic The Gathering).

Oh, and I also landed an internship at a financial company.

Needless to say, I had a lot of stuff on my plate. And I was making progress on EVERYTHING.

It felt good.

The question is, how can you FINISH these projects?

How can you finally release one of these projects into the world and see the change you’ve always hoped for?

I’ll share more about that in my next email.

For now, here’s what I want you to do…

Here’s what I want you to write:

#1. My main thing is this:

#2. My side project is this:

#3. My other side project is this:

And share all the details.

It doesn’t matter what types of projects you’re working on. And it doesn’t matter whether you’re close to launching it or not. What matters is this: I want to see what you’re currently working on (or plan on working on) this year.

Why?

So I can show you how to make progress on each of these things this year.

And again, in my next email, I’ll show you a simple technique you can use to make more progress FASTER. If you’re not on the email list, sign up for it right now. If you are, don’t worry, you don’t need to do anything right now.

This is important (and personal): Help us build a school!

Many people know me, but they don’t know my full story.

When I was a kid, my mom was on welfare, my dad was in jail, and I was surrounded by other drug addicts who would steal money from my mom.

Things were bad, and then they got worse.

By the time I turned 13, I got choked for winning a game of Monopoly, a family member stabbed another with a steak knife, and it seemed as if the police (and child protective services) stopped at my house… daily. And when they asked, “Is everything okay?” I lied.

At the time, I wish I had a different life. A life where I wasn’t surrounded by crazy people.

…but I didn’t.

I had my own private little hell. And you know what? Looking back, I realize one thing: I got REAL lucky.

“LUCKY?”

I know. Ridiculous. But bear with me a sec.

You see, my grandmother (my dad’s mom) wanted more for my mom, my sister, and me.

So, she persuaded my mom to go back to college. And my mom did it! She worked full time, raised two kids full time, and went to school full time…

…And watching her pull that off changed everything.

Here’s why:

I saw, first hand, the power of an education.

  • I saw how education could thrust someone from the brink of poverty to a middle class life.
  • I saw how education could level the playing field for people who seemingly have NOTHING going for them.
  • I saw how education could be the REAL secret to success (and lasting change) for people who need it most.

So, it got me thinking…

I turn 31 on Christmas.

(Yes, my birthday is on December 25th).

And 31 is a special year for me.

As you may remember, I couldn’t celebrate my 30th birthday.

Why?

My cardiologist discovered I had a heart condition. And a few days before I turned 30, a heart surgeon entered my heart and burned something out of it with microwaves. So, instead of celebrating my 30th, I was in recovery.

So, what can I do to make turning 31 amazing?

Well…

Education remains a central part of my life:

  • I educate myself by taking online courses, hiring consultants, and reading more books than almost anyone I know.
  • I built a successful business selling educational products.
  • And I also co-founded a software called ZippyCourses that allows other people to pass on their knowledge and expertise to the world.

And the fact that you’re reading this means education is also a central part of your life, too, right?

I mean, when it’s all said and done, what is Social Triggers?

It’s a remarkable community of entrepreneurs. We all want to build something amazing for the world. And we all actively actively pursue their own self-education by subscribing to blogs, signing up for courses, and more.

And that’s when I had a great idea…

A while back, I featured Adam Braun on my podcast, and he told me about his work over at Pencils of Promise.

If you’re unfamiliar with Pencils of Promise, they have built more than 320 schools in Ghana, Guatemala, and Laos. And they give innocent children access to an education… an education that can change their life…

Now, what if, we, the Social Triggers community, helped Pencils of Promise build a school?

What if we gave underprivileged children access to an education that has been such a meaningful part of our lives?

Wouldn’t that be AMAZING?

IT SURE WOULD.

And that’s why today I’m PUMPED to announce that Social Triggers is launching an initiative to help raise funds to build schools for kids who need it most.

You see, I talked to Adam (and his team) and I got the numbers. We can build 1 school with $25,000…

…but I’m betting with your help, we can build two, three, or four schools.

And to ensure we build at least two, here’s what I’m going to do:

Social Triggers will match all donations 1-to-1, up to a total of $25,000.

That means, if you donate $79.80, Social Triggers will kick in $79.80 making the total donation $159.60.

The best part?

Every dollar we raise will go directly towards building a school. And with the strength and size of the Social Triggers community, I know we can build at least two schools. And I hope together, we can do more.

I witnessed the power of an education in my early life. I was lucky.

I also saw the power of an education later in life…

…and since you’re reading this, I know you believe in the power of an education too.

Click Here to make a donation (and get it matched 1-to-1)

And together, we can make a difference.

I’m putting up $25,000 of Social Triggers money, so we’re guaranteed to build at least one school. But with your help, I’m betting we can build 2, 3, or 4 schools.

Donate right here…
http://ift.tt/1NINV7C

…and let us build a school together.

The bottom line?

Education changed my life. And I’m betting it helped shape yours, too. So, I hope you’ll join me on this campaign to build schools for innocent children who need access to an education. I will match any donation 1-to-1, up to a total of $25,000. So, even if you just donate $27, I’ll kick in another $27 making the total donation $54.

These 5 little words can help you achieve anything. Here’s why…

Yes. Just 5 little words can help you achieve anything. I’ll explain…

5 years ago, I found myself unhappy at my job. It’s not that working is bad. I just didn’t like what I was doing and I needed a change. And I knew if I didn’t make a change fast, I wasn’t going to make it.

And that’s why I wanted to start my own business. I thought, “Okay, if I don’t like what I’m doing right now, I should just do what makes me happy and get paid for it!”

But, like most people who want to start a business, I had a few psychological blocks. I said things like:

“Had I done this a few years ago, it would have been different. But right now is BAD. I have responsibilities!”

“I’ve always liked the idea of starting a business. Heck, I had one of the largest gossip sites in the world just a few years ago. But right now all the good ideas are taken!”

“I’m too old to start a business now. When I was younger, it would have been different.”

“I just don’t have the time anymore.”

What’s funny is, I already had a proven track record. Before working in corporate America, I ran one of the most popular entertainment blogs on the web, and I made a killing doing it. And yet, there I was, SCARED to do it all over again.

What happened?

To understand that, let me tell you about my first business…

I started my first business in college. It was a celebrity gossip business. Why and how did I get started? I saw a celebrity gossip blog that sold ads for $1000 a week. And he had 5 ads on his site. And I was like, “I can do that too!” And I truly believed it. So when I went to work, I was never concerned with “Will this work?” I believed “I can do that too,” and I did it.

Then I got bored. And while reading a story about how Jack Welch became the CEO of GE, I thought to myself, “I can do that, too!” So I walked away from my entertainment business and got a job in corporate america. And I did well. Again, I wasn’t concerned with, “Why would they hire me? I majored in english.” I just decided “I can do that too” and I did it.

And that’s when I realized the problem.

In both of those instances, I believed in myself. I saw someone doing something I was interested in, and I thought to myself, “I can do that too,” and I did it.

It’s almost as if those 5 little words held some kind of magical powers.

“I can do that too!”

But for some reason, “I can do that too,” wasn’t working for me anymore.

Why?

Well, I knew I wanted to make a change, but I didn’t know what change I needed to make. In both of the other examples, I saw something I wanted to do, and then I did it. And yet, there I was, stuck in corporate america with no idea on what to do next. I had NOTHING to say “I can do that too” about.

So, I told my friend about my problems, and luckily, he said, “Why don’t you come consult for my company?” He knew I knew how to build large audiences, and he wanted me to build him a large audience.

And that’s when I made the jump. I remember thinking, “I can do that too.” And I did it.

It’s pretty interesting, right?

In almost all cases, before I made a leap, I started off with the simple belief “I can do that too!” And then I went for it.

Now let’s fast forward to today.

As you know, I help people start and grow their business. And I noticed people say the same things I said to myself years ago. They say, “I don’t have an idea,” “it’s too late to start now,” “I don’t have the time,” and “I have too many responsibilities.”

Maybe you can relate?

Well, check this out…

“I can do that too” was the secret behind all of my success. So I thought to myself, how can I make other people believe the same thing I believed?

I believe I found the answer.

Tomorrow I’m going to introduce you to a brand new tool that can help you: find a profitable idea, show you how to get started on that idea, and most important: show you that “Yes, you can do that, too!”

And this tool will be my gift to you.

(AKA it won’t cost a cent!)

For right now, I just have one quick question:

Are you looking to start your first business? Or grow your existing business? What are some of your hangups? What’s holding YOU back?

…and look for an email from me tomorrow where I’ll share this new tool.

Remember, it’s 100% free.

And if you ever thought about starting a business, I believe this new tool will guide you in the right direction.

Why Entrepreneurs Go Broke

I’ve got a confession to make: I love reading about business owners who went broke…

…and luckily for me there’s a new trend where business owners share their sordid story in public.

Like this story about Dinnr. Or this story about a failed Yoga Teacher.

You might think this is weird. Or strange. But I do it for one important reason: I’m paranoid about my own business failing, too.

Not “unhealthy paranoid.” I just look for mistakes other people made so I don’t make those same mistakes.

Makes sense, right?

Right.

Now, what was the BIGGEST mistake?

Well…

In almost all cases, businesses went broke because they didn’t have enough money. And they didn’t have enough money because they couldn’t generate enough profitable sales.

Yes, sometimes the lack of sales was a symptom of something else. Something like creating a product that people didn’t want, inexperienced co-founders, or sometimes, people just created a bad product or service.

But in almost all cases, had they just had more revenue coming in the door, they could have prevented these problems (or had time to fix them).

Plus, when you know how to make people buy, you don’t really need to worry about these issues.

Someone who knows how to sell would never create a product that people don’t want. Why? Because they know their product development STARTS with understanding what people want. And then they figure out how to give it to them.

Now this doesn’t mean you don’t need a product or service. You do. But something magical happens when you combine “sales skills” with a desire to create a great product or service.

It’s truly a 2+2=6 relationship. Meaning, the sum of each individual part – the product, and the sales – is worth more than the individual pieces.

I should know, too.

Let’s take a look at one of my products, ZippyCourses. I launched this into private beta in 2014. And we sold a few hundred units.

In the beginning, our sales process was simple: we asked people to sign up for the wait list, and then we asked people to buy Zippy Courses. And that’s it.

However, fast forward to today, we’ve now sold a few thousand copies.

We actually sold more copies in a single day than we did in the entire year of 2014.

Yes, we continued to improve our product, but what’s more important is this: we created a scaleable system to generate MORE sales.

A system that works 24/7.

A system that helps us generate more sales each month on auto-pilot.

A system that turns new prospects into paying customers like Midas would turn anything he touches into gold.

Would you like to learn how to create a system JUST LIKE THIS for your product or service?

Well, you’re in luck.

It’s Sales Week at Social Triggers.

And I’m going to show you how to do just that. I’ll show you how to create a simple system that can help you generate “sales on demand.”

More specifically, I’ll take you behind the scenes of how I write emails that get opened, sales pages that convert, and webinars that generate revenue.

Plus, I’ll show you how I launch products (and how I teach other people to launch products and services).

So, look for an email from me tomorrow with the “first installment.”

For right now, here’s what I want you to do:

Are you currently struggling to generate sales for your business? Are you confused about product launches? Do you have any questions about copywriting?

Leave a comment right here and I’ll do my best to address it in this series.

Feel free to leave your name as “anonymous.” And if you do leave it as Anonymous, shoot me an email at news@socialtriggers letting me know your comment (in case I have some feedback).

I Bombed My First Speaking Gig…

I bombed my first speaking engagement. I’ll never forget it, too. I was nervous. Real nervous. The morning of, I called a friend to practice my intro and they patiently listened to me do it… 47 times.

“How does this sound? Wait! NO! Let me do it—” And my friend interrupted me. “Derek, it’s fine. You’re going to do great.” But I went on, “What if I said it like this…”

I know they rolled their eyes over the phone, but I had to practice it. I had to get it right. I knew first impressions were important so I didn’t want to mess it up. And then, when I finally stepped on stage to introduce myself, I promptly forgot the introduction.

FACE PALM.

My content was solid, but I was monotonous. Boring even. And I stumbled through my presentation while white-knuckling the podium as if it was a life support machine preventing me from instant death.

Yet, when you fast forward to today, things are MUCH different. You see, while I bombed my first speaking engagement, today, as I get off stage, people always tell me, “WOW! You’re a natural!”

I also charge $20,000 for keynote speeches and I get it. I don’t say this to brag, and to be completely transparent, I often accept $15,000 assuming the conference provides me with full rights of an HD video of my presentation…

…But the bottom line is this: Yes, I bombed my first gig, and now I charge $20,000 for each keynote.

What happened?

And more importantly, what can you learn about speaking, giving presentations, and becoming a speaker who commands top fees?

Well…

How I Became A Better Speaker

A few months after I bombed, I had another speaking engagement. This time around, in preparation for this gig, I read every book I could find about the art and science of giving and creating GREAT presentations. I also watched the most popular talks on TED.

You see, I always believed that talent was overrated. It’s actually one of the driving principles here at Social Triggers… because I knew it was possible for people who were bad at things to become good at things. I saw it in my personal life when I learned how to be confident in social situations… and that’s why I knew it was possible for an amateur presenter to learn how to speak and present well. I just needed to “figure it out.”

So I kept studying. And by the time I gave this speaking engagement, I was MUCH better, but there was a huge problem…

I saw another guy speak at this event and he WOWED the room.

It was an awkward room. It was long, skinny, and there were around 200 people in it. While I paced around the center of the room, this guy paced the FULL LENGTH of the room. Each movement seemed to be perfectly sychronized with every word he said. He’d be on the left, make a point, people would drop their jaw and he’d already be gone. Then he’d be on the right, make another point, people nodded fiercely, and he’d be off to the center where he’d share the MAIN thing and people got up and gave him a standing ovation.

It was amazing. And I wanted to be JUST LIKE HIM…

…and that’s when I got REAL LUCKY!

I met him. He told me his name was Michael Port, and he gave me some feedback on my presentation. “You’re a good speaker, but you’ve been at this for just a couple of years, right?”

I laughed. “No, this was my second time.” And that’s when I got lucky.

“That’s great! How about this? I know you know how to build an audience better than anyone. How about I share what I know about speaking with you and you share what you know about building email lists with me? It could be a trade.”

I almost never do trades with people, but I was just admiring how great this guy was, and here he was wanting to share what he knew about speaking with me.

Needless to say I said “HECK YES!”

And that’s when things came together. I was an okay speaker, but after a few conversations with Michael, I became a great speaker.

What did he share with me? And how did he help shape me into the speaker I am today?

Well Michael Port has a new book that came out that is essentially a “Michael Port” brain dump on how to be a GREAT speaker. And how to create great presentations. I’ll share more about that book in just a second…

…first, here are the three things he shared with me…

Thing #1: Your Speech Is A Performance

In a previous life, Michael Port was an actor. So, he was an expert at taking other peoples words and performing them in front of other people.

And performing is the key word.

Why?

As Michael shared with me, when you get on stage in front of hundreds of people, you are giving a PERFORMANCE. It’s not just about your content. It’s about how you perform and deliver that content.

I knew this first hand, too. My first ever speaking engagement, the one I bombed, was me drolling on and on about all the stuff I knew. The content, had it been in a textbook, was amazing. But it was dry. It was boring. I could see people’s eyes glazing over as I shared it with them.

Now I could have said, “Well if they’re not listening it’s their problem. It’s their loss.”

And that would have made me feel better. But remember, I wanted to become a great speaker and presenter. It wasn’t their job to listen. It was MY JOB to MAKE them listen. And that’s why PERFORMANCE was key.

Thing #2: You Must Move With “Intent”

When I got on stage, I’d just randomly pace around the room because I told myself, “standing still makes you look rigid. And Derek, you’re not a rigid person.”

I’d shimmy to the right. Talk a little bit. Muddle to the left. Talk a little bit. I’d occasionally throw a hand gesture in the mix when I was making a point… and sometimes, if I were lucky, I wouldn’t drop the microphone on the floor.

And this was a disaster.

Again, even though I bombed my first speaking gig and did very well at my second gig – a NYT best-selling keynote speaker actually complimented me on Twitter about my second gig, as did the owner of one of the larger industry conferences – I knew I needed to become better.

And to become better I knew I needed to move with intent. Just like Michael had told me.

If you remember when I saw him speak I commented on how he COMMANDED the room. Even though the room contained a few hundred people, it was as if he was talking directly to each person. And moving with intent through the length of the room is partly how he did it.

Thing #3: You Must Rehearse Your Presentation

Oh boy. This was a killer for me. Seriously. I’ve always been a fan of preparing my content, and then just getting on stage and “winging it.”

But Michael said this was a huge mistake. If you want to give a performance, and you want to move with intent, you MUST REHEARSE your presentation.

Now for some reason I was very AGAINST rehearsing. I’d say things like, “Well, I just want people to get the real me.”

I’d also say, “I don’t want to sound scripted or rigid.”

And when I shared this Michael I vaguely remember him laughing about it. Why? Because he said I didn’t practice enough. Funnily enough, another keynote speaker, my friend Sally Hogshead, had actually told me something similar a few months after I spoke to Michael.

Well, I just called Michael on the phone and he provided some clarity on this exact issue. Here’s what he said:

“People get worried about rehearsing. Why? Because they tried rehearsing ‘a little bit.’ And that’s a problem. When do a little bit of rehearsal, you get on stage and try to recall what you rehearsed. You’re not in the moment. However when you are fully rehearsed, so much that you know your material cold, you can stay in the moment and have your presentation come to your organically. And you can later improv in the moment.”

And he’s so right.

Now when I give presentations, I’m fully rehearsed. Actually, just a few weeks ago I keynoted my friend JOnathan Field’s conference. I got on stage, and I crushed it. I’d crack jokes and everyone would laugh. I’d deliver content and I’d know exactly what people were going to ask me before they asked me it. It was as if I was on stage, performing my presentation, and had a secret data dump of what everyone was going to do inside my brain.

And it’s because I did.

I had practiced that presentation a hundred times. The jokes that made people laugh? 95% of them were scripted.

The best part?

No one would have known the wiser… until I told them so. That’s the power of a “full rehearsal.”

Now How Can You Take This To Next Step?

These are the three things that helped me become the speaker I am today. It’s also why I’m able to command top speaking fees.

You see, people think “getting paid the big bucks” to speak is hard. And you know what? It is.

But if you want to be the type of person who gets paid thousands of dollars for a keynote presentation, you’re going to need to master the three things I put forth in this article today.

And you should also buy Michael Port’s new book “Steal the Show.”

(Yes, that’s an affiliate link. And when you get the book, I get a very small affiliate commission. But don’t worry. It doesn’t come out of your pocket. It comes out of Amazon’s. But I could care less about the commission. I’m using an affiliate link for one reason… people always ask me for book recommendations and I never post them because I think people will never listen to them. I’m using this link to see if people actually want book recommendations or if they just say that because it sounds good).

You see, I was lucky enough to get some one on one time with Michael early in my speaking career. But, truthfully, I always liked reading books and this is the exact book I would have wanted to read back when I was working on becoming a better speaker.

As a matter of fact, it’s book I just recently went through and I believe this book is perfect for people like me too. People who are already good at speaking… but they want to become the BEST.

You see, in this article today I focused on the “performance” associated with speaking. But in Michael’s book, he goes so much further. As an example, here’s what you will learn:

* How to Craft Capitivating Pitches, Speeches, and Stories
* How to Researse and Stage World-Class Performances
* How to Produce Powerful Openings, Commanding Closings, and Amazing Audience Interaction
* And more.

Look. It’s a book. It’s less than twenty bucks. If you want to become a better speaker, I highly suggest you get the book.

People always ask me for what books I’m currently reading. Well, this is a book I just read. So, get the book ;-).

Anyway…

Once you get the speech down, the rest is about getting your name out there. And as a speaker, that’s not as hard as you’d think. Here’s why:

Almost every speaking engagement I landed came from the fact that I CRUSHED another speaking engagement.

One of the things you should know is this: when you perform a great presentation at a conference, chances are there is someone in the room who knows someone who books speakers at another conference…

…and if you’re the BEST speaker at the event, trust me. They’ll talk. That’s how I got almost every single speaking gig.

Plus, now that I got real good at speaking, I’m also great on camera. And publishing videos of me speaking on the web has actually helped me get asked to speak MORE at MORE places.

Earlier this year I spoke to a Fortune 500 companies sales team. Why? Because they liked the vibe I had in a video I had published on my YouTube channel.

Of course there’s more to do on the marketing front, but for now, I suggest you focus on creating a great presentation. So, follow what I shared in this blog post and get Michael’s book this week.

And then, what I want you to do is this:

Are you currently a speaker? Or are you working on becoming a better speaker? I’d love to hear your about your first experience with speaking.

I told I had bombed my gig. And maybe one day I’ll share the video. But for now, I’d like to hear about your experience. Share it in the comments.

Also, if you’re going to grab the book, just let me know you did it in the comments. I’d love to see who’s actually serious about becoming a better speaker.

What converts better: $100, $99, or $97?

I believe the subject line said it all. What converts better? $100, $99, or $97?

And should you even worry about something like this?

Some people would say yes.

After all, look around for split test results and you’ll see results like “changing a button color yields 1 million percent increase in conversions!”

But today I’ve got something a little controversial to share with you. And when you watch this new video, I’m betting you’ll agree with me.

And when you’re done watching the video, I want you to do something simple: share your experience with pricing your products and services. What worked? What didn’t work? Or, if you haven’t done anything rigorous, that’s okay too. Just let us know how you came up with your prices.
